International Guest Lecture | Exploring Politeness in and through English

Is politeness in English simply a matter of saying please, thank you, or sorry? How do cultural backgrounds, communication contexts, and interpersonal relationships shape the way we understand and express politeness? This lecture, Exploring Politeness in and through English: Context and Cultures, Principles and Practices, invites participants to examine the cultural meanings, communicative principles, and practical applications of politeness in English. Through exploring language and culture in context, we will gain new perspectives on intercultural communication and the role of politeness in everyday interactions and language learning.

We are delighted to welcome Professor Graham S. Hall, Professor Emeritus in Applied Linguistics at Northumbria University, UK. With over 30 years of experience in English language teaching, teacher education, and applied linguistics research, Professor Hall is an internationally recognized scholar and former editor of ELT Journal. His work bridges academic research and classroom practice, offering valuable insights for language educators and researchers alike.

English teachers, pre-service teachers, graduate students, and anyone interested in language, culture, and intercultural communication are warmly invited to join us for this engaging lecture!
